Jay Chou is my friend

I have a Jay Chou living and breathing among my friends.

I first knew Z about a little over a year ago through school. He struck me as a really eccentric person who refused to disclose his real name and therefore we had to address him through his moniker, "Z".

Now, I just found out that we have mutual friends when I overheard one of their conversations.

Them: Hey, why not we call Z out for supper!
Me: Haha, funny, I know a Z too.
Them: It might be the same Z... who calls himself Z, right?!

Me: Ok my Z has really tiny eyes...
Them: (getting excited) Yes yes!
Me: ...and is short...
Them: (getting really excited now) YES!! And looks like Jay Chou?
Me: Huh? Jay Chou?

That was how I got to realise that he looks like Jay Chou, even though I denied this vehemently in the beginning. Reason being:

1) I have no idea how Jay Chou really looks like because most of the time his hair covers half of his face. (I really should have put two and two together since Z is fond of doing that too)

2) I don't really notice how my friends exactly look like because I always look elsewhere when I'm talking.

Anyway, I told my friends that no way does Z resemble Jay Chou in any bit, until...

...I watched this.

It was the first time I'd seen Jay Chou without hair covering almost everywhere in his face. After my friends made that comparison, I scrutinised Z's face for one full day to remember every single detail of his face.

And when Jay Chou made his first appearance in Secret, I squealed, "OMG! That's Z!"

I'd finally found a resemblance between the two!

Still skeptical?

Let me convince you further!!

Bowled over by the uncanny resemblance yet?? You better be, because, I can't believe I TOOK ONE YEAR TO REALISE IT.

(By the way, ladies, he's single and very available. Drop me a message if you're interested, haha!)

Friendship

“The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.”

I don't mind if you compare my bag with a SACK, or laugh at me listening to Gold 90.5 FM.. I really don't.

Was having a little chat with Wei Ling the other day, and though we're exactly close, she made me realise, how much I love the way life is right now.

Pictures!! Here is what we do when Raj mentions the other "C" word - CHILL OUT!

Randomness

> Heartwarming, was when 'Umbrella' came on and in the midst of all the shouting and sweaty bodies, Raj hugged me and told me, "Huiwen, I'm so glad I met you."

> Sometimes, I wonder if I'm making the same mistake I did some time back. Do I want to try white chocolates if dark chocolates are what I've been loving all along? But, how would I know I wouldn't love white chocolates as much as dark, if I don't try, right?

> I bought the Chopin waltz book that I'd lost, and it's heavenly feeling the familiar keys running under my fingers.

> Suddenly, life seems like the ocean, and I feel like just a droplet of water.

Ping.sg T-shirt Contest!

I'm a big fan of slogan tees! I think it's fun to see t-shirts that say: "Your Girlfriend Is So Hot" or some other words that totally don't make sense but still rock, anyway!

So when Uzyn asked the ping.sg community to come up with a T-shirt design for ping.sg, naturally I came up with a slogan design. I did it all for fun and solely so I could blog about it, haha.

Here's the product after about 8 minutes of doodling on Photoshop! Really simple.

I showed it to arzhou, who came up with his own slogan. Check out his tee design here. (He also reminded me that it was a CONTEST, which means that there's prize money, damn! Shouldn't have showed him!)

Anyway, here are the requirements of the contest as stated by Uzyn:
1. It is a Ping.sg t-shirt, so, yeah the t-shirt has to have Ping.sg's logo.
2. Ping.sg's URL - http://ping.sg. We don't want ourselves to be mistaken for promoting for a golf equipment company.
3. Nothing else. Feel free to be creative.
Technically, I'm out of the contest because I didn't fulfil #2. I like it this way! And besides, I'm just doing this for fun and not for the money. Perhaps you guys can improve on it, add in the link and stand a chance to win!

So people, WHERE ARE YOUR DESIGNS!?!

Partying Till I Drop

Since the end of my relationship I've been partying alot. Way too much.

When I jumped on the party wagon, I knew it would be a matter of time before the novelty died down and my scars would surface. The funny thing is, they didn't. Perhaps there are other reasons why, but for now I'm just grateful that I have friends around me who are so crazy about hanging out every weekend.

Just last weekend, we spent about an hour trying to get a proper shot of all of us jumping in mid-air but unfortunately, we keep having the same black sheep over and over again. And about another hour laughing at ourselves. We were fooling around till the wee hours of the morning.

Anyway, pictures from PVD @Zouk! It was so packed I felt like sardines in a can. But it was really worth it too! Here's the conversation that transpired between Raj and I when he asked me out for that weekend:

Raj: ...blah blah... See you at Zouk yeah?
Me: Wow! Didn't know you appreciated PVD too! Yeah see you there.
Raj: Huh? I was talking about Phuture...
Me: What! PVD is in Singapore and you're going to Phuture!
Raj: Uh huh...
Me: That's like saying Angelina Jolie is coming down and you're going to see Zoe Tay instead!!!

And.. that's how I was able to drag him over to Zouk.. by comparing PVD to Angelina Jolie, haha.

The only clear picture of PVD after 123953382 attempted shots of him because the whole place was so smoky.

Raj&I; Brendan&Cassandra; Raj high on booze; Brendan&I during supper; beautiful Shirleen&Raj; Glenn&I

This weekend Peipei has her term break and because she's my majesty, you'll see me at Zouk again this Friday. If you see me just come up and say hi!

Things I Miss About Being Little and Innocent...

There's this Facebook group that I came across, which is part of the Singapore network - if you were born in the 80's in Singapore

There was a long list of what this group of people would remember, and I found myself giggling and laughing to some of the points.

Here are some I really liked:

> You paid 40 cents for cartons of Chocolate or Strawberry milk every week in class.

> Everyone's wallet used to be the velcro type

> Envelopes were given to us to donate to Sharity Elephant every Children's Day.

> You know what PETS are and the hidden animals in all the text pages.

> Writing lines and caning hands were common, esp if you failed chinese spelling (caning was actually allowed. no shit).

> You were there when they first introduced the MRT here. You went for the first ride with your parents and you would kneel on the seat to see the scenery.

> You bought tidbits called beebee (20 cents per pack, 10 cents in MGS), and mamee (30 cents), that had a different sticker in it every time.

> Waterbottles were slung around your neck and a must everywhere you went.

> Collecting and battling erasers was a pastime for boys.

>Science was fun with the Balsam and the Angsana being the most important plants of our lives, guppies and swordtail being the most important fishes.

> Who can forget Ahmad, Bala, Sumei and John, immortalized in our minds from school textbooks.

> We conducted experiments of our own to get badges for being a Young Zoologist/Botanist etc.

> Your form teacher taught you Maths, Science and English.

> Your friends considered you lucky and rich if your parents gave you $2 or more for pocket money everyday.

*****

Sigh. Time robs people of their innocence. How I wish I were little again! When my biggest troubles were something like showing my mum the math test that I got JUST 90 marks for..

Sappy me went to dig out old pictures to reminisce, and here's a picture of my sister and I when we were kids. (I have no recollection of that bear, seriously.)

What do you remember about being born in the 80's ?

Otto Fong = Courage!

I know it's been a few days since the Otto Fong saga, but I finally got to read the original letter.(via Singabloodypore)

Netizens were right when they said it was heartfelt piece. Reading it was like tugging at my heartstrings. I really liked his bonsai tree metaphor.. beautiful.
Do you know what a bonsai tree is? A bonsai tree is an imitation of a real tree. It is kept in a small pot with limited nutrients, trimmed constantly to fit someone else’s whim. It looks like a real tree, except it can’t do many things a real tree can. It cannot provide shelter, it cannot find food on its own; its life and death are totally reliant on its owner. It is the plant version of the 3-inch Chinese bound foot for women: useless and painful.

Being in the closet, pretending to be straight, trimming our true selves to suit the whims and expectations of others, is just like being a human bonsai tree. By staying in the closet, we cannot even hope to be average, much less above and beyond average.

Everything about him spells courage. Something I never think I will have full grasp of. There will always be skeletons in my closet which I will never reveal. Mr Otto Fong, you have my respect!

First Day of School And My New Hair

Most girlfriends I know turn to shopping when they are feeling stressed or depressed. For me, whenever I am feeling strong surges of emotions, my form of retail therapy would be spending on my hair.

I spend on hair dyes, chemical treatments and agree blindly to whatever the hair stylist suggests.

Last week, I was feeling really elated (for no reason) and I splurged on a really expensive haircut.

For those who know me, I've had terribly long hair for quite some time, so getting my hair cut is a big deal. Even if there doesn't look like much of difference, it IS a big difference if you had seen the amount of hair on the floor.

I've mostly received positive comments about it, except a few who said, "You look so much more guai (well behaved) now" which I treated as a NEGATIVE comment, because:

1. Excuse me, was I very mean-looking all along? *sulks*
2. What are you talking about? I've always looked like a geek okay?

On a sidenote, I'm starting school today. And unbelievable as it may sound, I'M SUPER EXCITED. I believe they give us 3 months of holidays every school year to mess up our minds.. and it's working! I'm looking forward to lectures and meeting up with my school mates. Hoho!

The Quirky People of Ping.sg

Finally, I'm posting up this long awaited post of our last dinner outing (Cafe Cartel's).

Every community has its quirky people, and in ping.sg, we do have many of them! The guys, especially. This blog post is going to introduce three of these people I managed to catch on camera.

Quirky #1: Brennan

I met Brennan at Zouk with his hair shaven off, and he looked so different. I decided that this entry should be archived right away so we all don't forget how he looked with his long hair.

As part of his farewell present to us before leaving to serve the nation, we got him to do a San Lian Pai - The three consecutive shots that the Taiwanese variety shows like to get their girls to pose in.

If you look at picture 3, you will see that he stuck his tongue out the way the kawaii girls do! I don't know how we managed to convince him to, all I can say is the ping.sg people are a threatening persuasive bunch!

Quirky #2: Xizor

After some observation, we found Xizor to have an uncanny resemblance to one of the Japanese cartoon characters...

...DORAEMON!

Resemblance meter: 4/5

Quirky #3: Arzhou

Last but not least, we have Arzhou. I don't really know how quirky he is, but I'm just putting this up for fun. Haha.

What message do think he was trying to put across here? I think he was trying to ask me to keep quiet??? Bah. Sometimes, it's really hard trying to figure these people out!

I'm The Great Designer!

Boss Ming has been telling me for 2 weeks that he needs a new template, and I'm the perfect candidate for designing his website.

Actually, I'm the perfect candidate for his everything, including posting his mail, tearing his coupons, grabbing his umbrella... but that's besides the point.

I racked my brains over the 2 weeks but did nothing, simply because it's really hard to design something for a guy! You can't have it too flowery, or have loads of navigation because they're really simple minded creatures.

Yesterday Boss Ming said... Where's my template? I want it by tomorrow! (followed by an evil chuckle)

So, check out my feeble attempt after 2 hours of playing around with Blogger. Don't laugh ok, I'm not exactly a designer! I used red because I remembered that Boss Ming likes Manchester United! Actually, I don't really know if he does, but I noticed that he does wear alot of their jerseys.

Anyway, it's my last week of interning at Nuffnang! I know Boss Ming will miss me terribly and cry every day when I'm gone, but he just refuses to admit it.

Apparently, according to him, he wants to squeeze me like a sponge since I'm leaving! I just hope he doesn't make me water his plants or something, simply because... HE HAS A JUNGLE BEHIND HIS HOUSE!!
