Singapore to Bangkok
I manage to grab a taxi near my place and I fly down to Terminal One. I think I am late because my computer was giving me problems. I reach the airport and check in. I am hungry so I grab a sandwich from Gelare. I'm disappointed though, that they were pre-made , not made to order. It is 10.00pm and I head to my gate. I have mixed feelings about this trip. I hope I can be a very happy person in Thailand. I tell myself that I will.
I send goodbye messages as I board. I am still sending even as I settle in my seat. The headrest in uncomfortable and I squirm about, hoping to find a comfy position. The plane moves and takes off. I try to look out but it is pitch dark and the window is too far away from me. I try to sleep but I cannot. So I stay awake and try to occupy myself with the games.
The food on SAS is horrible. I've tasted it before and I don't want to try it again. So I leave my sandwich aside while everyone else munches on theirs. I am thankful that I had Gelare for dinner. There is no apple juice, so I settle for orange juice.
Before I know it, I am in Bangkok, Thailand. I forget to take the Arrival card and am in a state of frenzy. I am completely lost. I manage to locate a guy in uniform and he gives me the Arrival card. I get into a queue quickly and borrow a pen from the woman behind me. She is very friendly and speaks rapidly in a familiar language to the lady beside her. Japanese, I suppose.
The queue is not moving. I get frustrated at the slow service. I see some people leave the queue and I decide to take my chance and jump queues. I find a much shorter queue and am satisfied at my findings. I smile at the old man in front of me. He shows me his passport and looks at mine. "Nihon-jin," he tells me. I smile and say, "Singapore."
I am finally out of customs. I see a sign requesting for me and I join the group. It is almost 1am Singapore time. I am the last to be dropped off at the hotel, so I fall asleep while I wait.
I check into my hotel blurry eyed. It is extremely unfamiliar because mum booked a different one this time, closer to Sampeng so I needn't take cabs to and fro too much. My room is on the 11th floor. I make the wrong turn but I finally find my room. I shower and I pounce onto bed. Finally, I get to sleep.
Day One
I sleep to my fill and wake up refreshed at 9am (spore time). I go down to have my complimentary breakfast. The selection is not as big as Asia's hotel, but it will do. I settle for eggs, bacon, potatoes and chicken porridge. Then, I head out to Sampeng to get what I came here to get.
It is extremely difficult to cross the road. The air stinks. The traffic light is non-existent because drivers do not follow it. I manage to follow the locals and get across. I think I need more practice.
It is filled with people this morning. I weave in and out of shops. I am beginning to like this busy area. It is lively and most of all, simple. I go into a few shops and choose my earrings carefully. They are going for extremely cheap. I grab as much as I can, pay and repeat for the next shop.
At noon, I am exhausted. I grab all my bags and head back to the hotel. I fall asleep unknowingly and wake up to go back to Sampeng again.
The first day is extremely tiring. After my second round of shopping I return to drop my things again. I fall back on the bed and fall asleep , again.
It is dinner time when I wake. I take a break and go down to Saladeng to do my shopping. Things hasn't changed much around here the last time I came. I have my dinner and at night, I go for a nice relaxing shoulder massage.
Then, I return to the hotel to get a good night's rest.
Day Two
In the morning I wake reluctantly. I go downstairs and have the same breakfast. I rush off to Sampeng to redeem the goods I left with the shop because they took too long to bill it. I see Singaporeans bargaining for a bag. I shake my head silently because the bag is extremely cheap (S$3) and I don't see a need for bargaining, unless they are buying many bags. I do not stay long enough to see the outcome, but I presume the lady would not win a discount.
I have lunch here again. I have my dumpling noodles and orange juice again. Homemade noodles taste really good. I am satisfied and I carry on buying earrings and necklaces. I buy some gift boxes from a shop and tell them I will return to bill later. After some window shopping I return and find a huge bag of goods waiting for me. The staff sends a boy to bring it back to the hotel for me because clearly, I am unable to move the monstrous bag. Out of my goodwill, I tip him 20 Baht as he is about to leave.
Safe in my room, I turn on to National Geographic and watch the animal show. I remind myself that I need to buy gaosai for studygroup.
It is 5pm now and I am exhausted. Siam center is next on my list tonight. I think I will sleep.
Day Three
Today I wake automatically. I take my time to shower and I head down for breakfast. I have my usual again. Instead of porridge, I choose cereal this time and I have omelette for my choice of eggs. After having my fill, I head across to Sampeng.
I find this shop with irresistable wooden earrings going for 30 Baht each. A little pricey, I think, but worth the price for its design. I tell the lady, "more, More!" and she returns with many more wooden earrings. I wait outside while waiting for her to finish billing me, beacuse the shop space only allows for 1 person to cross. My bills totals to 10,000 Baht after discount. She thanks me profusely and urges me to return next time. I leave, feeling like a princess.
I drop my things at the hotela nd head off to the four-faced Buddha at Phat Phong. It is a must visit everytime I am in Bangkok. I take a cab down and after 20 minutes, the cab driver points ahead and says,"Phat Phong". I drop and realize that I am not at pHat Phong, but at Saladeng. I curse the cab driver and take an Mrt down to Chit Lom. I walk to the temple after getting instructions from the lady in the departmental store.
After my visit to the temple, I head down via train to Chatuchak. I hope I can grab some presents home from the weekend market. But when I reach, it is infested ith people. I start looking at puppies and kittens. Because of the crowd, I am turned off and take a cab to MBK to finish up my shopping.
It is late when I finish my shopping. I take a cab back to the hotel. I am extremely tired and sore all over. On the lift up, an advertisment for massage catches my eye. I head to the FItness room after my shower and have a nice relaxing massage. Rejuvenating!!
Sleep will be good after that.
Bangkok to Singapore
It is my last day here. I have wasted much time sleeping when I am supposed to be buying goods. So I wake extremely early today to do last minute buys. I return to the hotel at 11am and get ready for the driver to come and pick me.
My flight is at 4pm and I get there just in time. This time, i am assigned a window seat! I'm thrilled and stare out of the window whenever i can.
It is beautiful outside. Before I know it, I am in Singapore. I pay the taxes and grab a taxi home..
HOME SWEET HOME!!
